Hi! I’m Sunanda Subramanian a.k.a Sue – a transdisciplinary User Experience and Industrial Designer with a background in Architecture and Interior Design.
I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia, USA with a Masters’ Degree in Industrial Design in 2018 and cultivated my creative juices in the New York Area for a year before heading back to my hometown Hyderabad in mid 2019.
Important Note for Hiring Managers: I hold a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) – Canada and will be moving to Canada in March 2020
I believe human needs are multi-dimensional and experiences, emotions and stories of people bring design to life. I would like to appeal to this multi-dimensional phenomenon. As a designer, it is my dream and primary objective to improve lives and empower people by providing them with purposeful design experiences that are seamless and delightful to use; products that not only look appealing and are functional, but more importantly create compelling, lasting and meaningful experiences.
I believe that every object, be it an architectural space, a product or experience, is wrapped in it’s own weave of relationships. My approach to design is guided by a thorough understanding of this contextual weave. I address real-world problems with a human centered, empathethic and problem solving approach, with the aim of discovering hidden behaviors, pains, needs, and preferences of the users while aligning them with business goals and objectives. I am a strong advocate of the power of ethnographic and contextual research, collaboration, curiosity driven learning, and pride in your purpose.
My background and experience in architecture(7 long but amazing years) combined with my education in industrial design, has equipped me with the technical knowledge and critical thinking skills to visualize an experience from a micro to a macro scale, paying attention to both the big picture, as well as the little details. This has enabled me to lend a cohesive identity to the spaces that surround and the objects that inhabit them, to enhance human experiences.
The richness and diversity of the culture amidst which I grew up in India, has influenced me in many ways and crept into my work as well and was a source of inspiration for design, and also a way of life. I try to translate these in subtle ways into my design process as well and bring the dichotomy of the traditional and the contemporary in my design thinking.
An ambivert by nature, I would describe myself as confident, enterprising, vibrant, driven, diligent and amiable.
When I’m not contemplating what to design next, you’ll often find me singing my favorite songs, jamming with friends, or antakshari-ing my way through conversations with friends. I also love to travel and explore art and culture, the not-so-common places and events, play board games, hunt for good vegetarian food, play an occasional game of tennis, discover beautiful architectural spaces and now and then play paparazzi to cityscapes in the cities I live in.
